Florence The Earthworm
Meet Florence the Earthworm, the clever, chatty worm who lives in Nan Fran’s compost heap or, as she proudly calls it, “The Worm Hotel.”
With her shiny pink skin and endless curiosity, Florence is always wriggling about, studying how nature recycles itself. She believes there’s no such thing as rubbish, only things waiting to become useful again!
Known as the “Compost Queen” of Three Little Woods, Florence loves teaching everyone how her hard-working worm friends turn leftovers into rich, healthy soil. When Jake and Dan the Gardener stop by, she pops up to share her wisdom, explaining how apple peels, vegetable scraps, and fallen leaves can help new plants grow strong.
Florence is full of bright ideas and funny stories about life underground, often making the children laugh with her dramatic flair and proud wiggles. But beneath the jokes, she has a very big heart. She reminds everyone that even the smallest creatures have an important role to play, and that slow, steady work can create beautiful results.
🪱 Did you know?
Earthworms are nature’s recyclers! As they wriggle through the soil, they eat dead leaves and scraps, breaking them down into rich compost that helps plants grow. Their tunnels let air and water reach plant roots, keeping the soil healthy.
Florence likes to say, “We worms are tiny, but we keep the whole garden breathing!”
🌱 Composting Tip:
If you make a compost heap at home, remember to feed it a mix of greens (like fruit and vegetable scraps) and browns (like dried leaves or paper). Worms like variety, just like people!
Her motto: “Small steps, or wiggles, lead to big change.”
