My name is Kathy Rustell and I am the creator of Dan the Gardener and Friends. In my day job, I am a website designer & SEO strategist.
I was inspired by our children Michael, Daniel and Jennifer from when they were small, and whose love of nature, gardening, recycling and the environment spurred me on to create Dan the Gardener & Friends – kids gardening and environmental characters involving their adventures in Three Little Woods.
They have all now grown up and working within their chosen industries which funnily enough Michael and Daniels’s are close to their characters. Now we are onto grandchildren!

Michael
Alias Recycle Michael –
who is now a Dr in civil engineering in the environmental sustainability area.

Daniel
Alias Dan the Gardener – who specialises in themed, eco and sensory gardens and runs his own organic gardening business.

Jennifer
Alias Jennifer Pickles – who has her own fine-dining business. Obviously, Nan Fran rubbed off on her.
The information on our blog is here to help parents along with encouraging children (and adults!) to respect nature by recycling, reducing water, re-using products, growing plants, fruit and vegetables, being healthy and having fun!
Our overall aim is to make the world a better, cleaner, healthier and a more beautiful place to live. We hope to make our voices heard throughout the world and encourage everyone to protect our environment.
We realise that to truly reach this goal we must pass this information onto the children, as they are the future.
We want children to become interested in the environment and to love and enjoy their surroundings. By encouraging children how to recycle, reuse items and reduce the waste we create, it will become second nature to them as they become adults. This will create a more environmentally friendly generation, who will pass on these skills to future generations and enhance the future of the planet.
But above all we want them to have fun!
Children relate to many subjects through fun characters, and we hope that they will soon associate Dan The Gardener and Friends with helping to make the environment a better place to live.
We must encourage children to take an interest in what they can grow themselves whether they have a garden, backyard or a window sill. This not only is great fun for them but gives them a sense of responsibility and respect for nature.
Dan The Gardener and all his Friends motto is “It only takes small changes to make a big difference”.
