Hazel The Hedgehog
Meet Hazel the Hedgehog, the gentle nighttime explorer of Three Little Woods. While most of her friends are tucked up in bed, Hazel comes to life under the moonlight, snuffling through the gardens of Fernleigh Cottage and along the hedgerows near Dan the Gardener’s shed.
Hazel is a quiet hero shy but brave, careful but curious. With her soft brown spines and bright eyes, she loves tidying up the garden after dark, nibbling on slugs and snails to keep the plants healthy. She may move slowly, but her work makes a big difference to the balance of nature.
Hazel’s friends call her the “Guardian of the Garden” because she always makes sure everything is just as it should be before morning comes. She often leaves tiny footprints by Nan Fran’s compost heap, where she chats with Florance the Earthworm about recycling and soil. By dawn, she’s fast asleep in her cosy nest of leaves and moss.
Hazel teaches children that being small, quiet, or cautious doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference; it means you notice things others might miss.

Hedgehogs can travel over two miles in a single night! They help control garden pests naturally and love safe, wild corners to nest in. If you ever build a log pile or leave a gap under your fence, you might just give a hedgehog like Hazel a home.
Her motto: “Even in the quiet, you can do wonderful things.” 🌙
