Always ask an adult to help with hot ovens and electrical equipment.
- Preheat the oven to 180Β°C / 350Β°F / Gas Mark 4.
- In a mixing bowl, use an electric whisk to beat the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
Ask an adult to help. - Add the golden syrup, flour, ground ginger and bicarbonate of soda. Mix until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in cling film and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 0.5cm thick.
- Cut out star shapes using a star cutter. Re-roll the trimmings and continue until all the dough is used.
- Place the stars onto baking trays lined with baking paper.
Use the end of a straw to make a small hole near the top of each star. - Bake for about 8 minutes until lightly golden.
Ask an adult for help with the oven. - Leave to cool on the tray for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate with white icing and edible silver balls if you like.
Thread silver ribbon through the holes and tie a loop so the biscuits can hang on the Christmas tree.
